The Carpenters Education Program has been in constant
operation since the mid 1950's providing training for
Union Apprentices and Journeymen in New Mexico. Our
program is recognized by both the State and Federal
Departments of Labor and is also one of the largest and
most respected programs in the State. Our graduates
make up a major portion of the supervision on construction
sites in New Mexico. We train our members extensively
in all phases of jobsite safety and also offer a large
array of state of the art training in the commercial
and residential carpentry field.
The program is a four year curriculum of world class
instruction combined with closely monitored on the
job training allowing the apprentice to " earn as
you learn". Curriculums include a 4 year General
Building Construction path and a 3 year Interior Systems
path. Students receive some college credit through
Central New Mexico Community College that will be
counted towards an Associates Degree in Construction
Technology Carpentry Specialty.
All of the training is tuition free for our members
so the graduate is loan free at the end of the program.
Apprentices and graduates enjoy top wages and benefits
for their work and are capable of practicing the trade
all across the United States and Canada with one of
the largest and most progressive labor unions on the
planet. The curriculum is taught in New Mexico by
United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) Instructors
Certified through Penn State University so you can
be assured you are getting a top notch education with
professional veteran instructors well seasoned in the
trade. Our program accepts apprentices at all skill
levels and often awards school credit for previous
experience to provide you with the training you need
to make you the best craftsman you can be.
The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters has broken ground on it's new state of the art, $21 million training center in Albuquerque on May 14 to great anticipation and fanfare. The new facility in the heart of the State is far and away the biggest thing to ever happen to the Carpenters Union in New Mexico. The Center will be a carbon copy of the one in Ontario California only a little larger at approximately 100,000 square feet. Work on the center will hopefully start in the next month or so and take about 14 months to complete.
