Louis Ontiveros of Riverside CA, Director of Training at the Fund since 2017, was appointed February 7, 2019 to the California Apprenticeship Council, by California Governor Gavin Newsom. The Council provides policy advice on apprenticeship matters for the building and construction trades—and for firefighter occupations—to the Director of the Department of Industrial Relations. It issues rules and regulations on specific apprenticeship subjects to be published in the California Code of Regulations, and conducts appeals hearings.

Louis was a team lead and executive board member of the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Local 944 from 2002 to 2017. Before that, he was an apprenticeship instructor at the Fund from 1998 to 1999. Louis served as a U.S. Marine from 1985 to 1993.

Also on February 7, 2019, Richard Harris, of Villa Park, CA, who is president of the Residential Contractors Association, was reappointed to the California Apprenticeship Council by California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Richard has served on the Council since 2007. He held several positions at Wesseln Construction Company from 1965 to 1987, including those of general superintendent and apprentice carpenter.
